Bans

Children’s meals sold in restaurants must meet certain nutritional standards before they can be sold with toys, according to a law passed by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors on November 2, 2010. The law was passed in order to reduce the occurrence of childhood obesity by preventing the triggering of childhood obesity. The law, which was prompted in part by an increase in childhood obesity in the United States, would allow toys to be included with children’s meals that have fewer than 600 calories and fewer than 640 milligrams of sodium, contain fruits and vegetables, and include beverages that do not contain excessive fat or sugar, among other requirements.

According to the satirical news show The Daily Show, the law has been criticized.

In 2010, a class action lawsuit was filed in California attempting to prohibit the sale of Happy Meal toys.

In April 2012, the lawsuit was formally dismissed. In Chile, the Happy Meal, as well as other children’s lunches at other fast food establishments, no longer feature complimentary toys as a result of a 2012 law prohibiting such items in an effort to combat childhood obesity.

You must think it’s quite impolite of them to deny you, an adult, the opportunity to order a tiny quesadilla or some macaroni and cheese. Everyone knows that if you want chicken nuggets, no one is going to stop you from getting them. Even if your waiter or drive-thru employee gives you a weird look, the outcome will be well worth it in the long run.

They also offer an additional advantage in that they come in smaller servings, which is ideal when you only need a snack and don’t want to break the bank on calories and fat.

On the other hand, as one user on Reddit points out, perhaps if restaurants gave alternatives for lesser amounts, adults would be less likely to order from the kids’ menu.

As it turns out, though, McDonald’s is well aware of this practice and recently made light of it on its Instagram account.

Happy Meals make everyone happy

As of the time of publishing, over 600 admirers had commented on the page, with many of them admitting to engaging in the activity. “I get Happy Meals for me so that I may be happy,” one customer explained. In the words of another, “I take great pride in ordering Happy Meals for myself.” We could not agree with you more.

There are also instances when you’re not hungry enough to consume 10 chicken McNuggets, but you desperately want a Hot Wheels toy.

At the end of the day, you have complete freedom to make your own choices.

So, if that’s what you want, go ahead and purchase a Happy Meal.
