Medicine Woman Meets Medicine Woman: Talking Shop with Ana Forrest of Forrest Yoga

An interview with Ana Forrest, one of my favorite yoga legends, was sent to me as a gift recently, and it was quite magnificent.

Ana Forrest is not your typical international yoga rockstar.

To the contrary, she would most likely rebuke me if I referred to her as a rock star and explain that she is a modern Medicine lady. (Actually, as I come to know Ana better, I’m confident that she’d be OK with my referring to her as both a rockstar and a contemporary Medicine lady.) The fact that Ana is so humble about language is a testament to her physical talent and genre-bending manner of weaving our challenges, repetitive patterns, and ways that we “depress ourselves in 30 seconds flat.” This isn’t a posh affair.

Here’s how.

Ana Forrest’s intelligence manifests itself in a variety of ways, but the first thing that struck me was her ability to detect my emotional state while in a yoga stance. My mat was attacked by a tiger as soon as I began to drift away from it (and think about my evening dinner plans). She noted how I was rushing through a particularly tough stance, not taking the time to enjoy the delicacy of the pose as much as I should have. Busted! She saw my propensity of overachievement and called me out on it.

When you stop breathing in a class of 100 people, she notices right away.

In a nutshell, she’s got your phone number.

“Become the architect of your own pharmacopeia”- Ana T. Forrest

This woman practices “Fierce Medicine,” which is not something I coined up on the spot. It just so happens that Ana is the author of a book with the same title: Fierce Medicine, which is an essential synthesis of how to monitor fear and deconstruct behavioral patterns that hold you back in life. When you are out of your body, Ana has an exceptional power to put you back in your body with all of its components working together in the service of your sparkliness, your natural intelligence. The goal is for you to go past first gear, which is where most of us get stuck, relying only on our thoughts to guide our movements through the environment.

Allow me to unwrap that pearl of knowledge for you.

Ana and I have an alternate, extended vision for you that is both very particular and scientific at the same time: that you can control your brain and body chemistry with your thoughts and behaviors, and that this is something you can do.

For your consideration, here’s a small taste of what’s possible: Stress hormones such as cortisol (the man on the bus who takes up too much space and makes your life a drag) should be reduced, while feel-good neurotransmitters such as serotonin should be increased.

  • There are two types of dopamine: dopamine is responsible for pleasure and fulfillment, while serotonin is responsible for your mood, sleep, and hunger
  • Oxytocin is a hormone (as well as a neurotransmitter) associated with love and bonding.

That’s a message I completely + utterly rally behind.

Here’s whatAnameans (to paraphrase her) has to say: A position of flat line is the default setting for everyone. We lose track of time. We keep the engine in first gear. Get out of first gear as soon as possible. Make use of yoga. Make use of your breath. Regain your radiance. We’re taught that struggle is a noble pursuit. It is not the case. Struggle shrinks you and makes you feel more restricted. Watch this brief video clip from our time together, and ready to go deep and remove what no longer serves you and your life purpose.

  • Yes, it does leave you wanting more.
  • Fortunately, we have plans to bring you even more heavenly collaboration in the very near future.
  • We are now working with Ana and her team to develop a few more modules of our synergy together, which will be connected to your mood, addiction to battle (fear), weight (energy), weight loss (of course!
  • you know I’ve got your back, and after all.

Roll it all into a burrito and you’ve got your Most Resourceful Self.

Let her, in cooperation with me, dislodge whatever is out of order in your thyroid, just as she dislodged the disorder, thefrat party, that was occurring in her thyroid and was not taking any prescription medicine at the time. Is Ana the genuine deal or a ruse? Sit back and enjoy the show, that’s right. Allow me to conclude with Ana’s remarks. Yesterday, I mentioned to Ana that I felt quite fortunate to be building this WELL with her, and that we had only dug an inch or two deep during our delectable time together on my birthday.

I’m telling you, this is going to be huge.

“This well, this deep well that we are co-creating, Dr. Sara, is as deep as we want to dig it.”

It’s time to start digging our well. Please share with me whatever parts of this connect with you in the comments section below.

Moments With Our Inspiration Team: Ana Forrest

The Warrior Collection is available for purchase. Getting the Spirit Fired Up An experience with Ana Forrest is one that is never forgotten. It is her adventurous energy, strength, and contagious imagination that enthralls others. She is a pioneer who isn’t scared to live life on her own terms and to make her own decisions. Ana is a well-known personality in the fields of yoga and health across the world. She is the founder of Forrest Yoga, a branch of yoga that was developed out of the pain and healing she encountered in her own life.

  1. As a result of her inclusion on the KiraGraceInspiration Team, we are happy to share with you the following interview with Ana Forrest, who is an inspiration in her own right.
  2. Ana Forrest ( The image of myself standing in the deep jungle with my hand over a tiger’s shoulder and a four-line scar over my dusty left thigh came to me often as a youngster.
  3. I was standing by and watched as the residents of the hamlet slaughtered one another in a civil war.
  4. The dream changes from time to time, but as long as I’m with the tiger, I’m secure and have a bright future ahead of me.
  5. My own power poem was inspired by the following line from a William Blake poem: “Tiger, tigress glowing hot.” In the middle of the night’s woodland.
  6. KG: Forrest Yoga is distinctive in that it pays close attention to emotion and the human soul while it is practiced via the body.
  7. Ana: Forrest Yoga is a practice that I developed for every âbody.â Take, for example, Forrest Yoga, which caters to those who enjoy working out at the gym or seeking high levels of intensity.

When they attend a Forrest Yoga session, our Forrest Yoga students rave about the incredible degree of vibrancy and attention that they get.

We teach how to operate in a way that is devoid of conflict and healing, which requires a great deal of concentration.

Consider the possibility that you have an injury and that you are unable to exercise â youcando Forrest Yoga.

Poses for beginners are performed by a beginner.

A more experienced practitioner learns more sophisticated positions as well as how to go further into their spiritual exploration.

If you practice Forrest Yoga, no matter what your skill level or life circumstances are, you will receive many lovely blessings.

Is there a reason why the spirit becomes divorced from the body, and why is it such a danger to live a life that is fragmented?

People suffering from addictions frequently have a sense of alienation from their spiritual selves.

Spirits have been observed to depart.

My own Spirit was quite elusive; it took me years of searching before I was able to locate it.

It was necessary for me to dismantle those layers in order for my Spirit to have any space to exist within meâ Then I had to make a comfortable home for my spirit within my physical body.

I became aware of any nefarious thoughts or actions that I was engaging in that would cause my Spirit to flee.

I chose the former.

They will be able to begin living their Spirit’s wants in a way that is thrilling, rewarding, and interesting as a result of this.

No one knows how long they will live or when they will die, and this is especially true for children.

Don’t let your life pass you by.

Ana: I once attempted to end my pain by jumping over a cliff, but somehow survived!

Soon after, I decided to take a leap for my life.

I worked as a horse trainer, but I was also hooked to drugs, alcohol, and tobacco.

As my receptors for love increased in number, my next step was to cultivate personal relationships.

Learning to love is one of my most advanced asanas, and I am constantly discovering new levels in this practice today.

One of the reasons I published Fierce Medicine: Breakthrough Practices to Heal the Body and Ignite the Spirit was to address exactly this issue.

What do you place on your daily plate of joy, and how does one go about discovering and incorporating this into one’s own daily routine?

As an example, I set aside time each day for my heart, Spirit, and recreation.

For this year, one goal is to learn how to stroll with ease through my day and through difficult situations.

With my breath and actions, I choose to nurture and expand the neuroreceptors that respond to love, pleasure, happiness, and ecstasy in my body.

Itâs simple for me to âget it up,â to produce affection for people, and to do it effortlessly.

Another one of my favorite intentions is to breathe and practice yoga in a way that activates my entire brain, so that I may progress to using my entire brain in all situations.

As a result, I want to educate more people how to romance their Spirit, which is the focus of my next book tour in 2014. Include the following in your daily routine to build your own daily diet of joy (you may do any or all of them!):

  • Make a decision about anything you wish to carry with you throughout the day. To put it another way, look for diverse ways to be inspired or tingled throughout the day. Deep inhalation and exhalation Investigate how to live in accordance with the reality rather than your beliefs
  • Doing daily yoga in a way that helps you awaken your aliveness and fuel the flames of your creativity can help you achieve your goals. Admit that you are responsible for creating a masterpiece out of your life

KG: What was it that inspired you to write Fierce Medicine? Do you consider your book to be an extension of your teaching career? What are the advantages of using this form of teaching and communication for you personally? Ana: I wrote Fierce Medicine with the sincere hope that it will have an impact on individuals all across the world, especially those who I will never meet in person. I want my readers to make use of the skills that I14ve developed and found while reading âFierce.â THEY ARE EFFECTIVE!

  1. Fierce Medicine is a treasure trove of knowledge that saved my life.
  2. These are the lessons that Fierce Medicine and Forrest Yoga teach its students: “Each of you is valuable beyond words, and you are worthy of care and fighting for.” You are a manifestation of a portion of the Great Mystery.
  3. ’ KG: Currently, there is a paradigm for a successful woman in our society – she manages her own business, is the ideal mother, and seems to be a supermodel all at the same time.
  4. However, you have distinguished yourself from this constricting pattern and have emerged as a very inspirational role model for many women in an unconventional manner.
  5. Ana: The ladies in our lives who live in a way that we admire and wish to emulate are the ones we need to be around.
  6. We don’t want to be that type of person anymore.
  • Deep breathing, Forrest Yoga, and drinking plenty of water are all recommended. Consume meals that nourish your energy rather than your cravings. Every day, focus on one positive aspect of your body, such as a place where it is strong or competent, or even something as simple as the fact that you are alive. Lots of abdominal crunches can help to purge the self-loathing and garbage from your core. Stop feeding yourself media poison about how you’re in the wrong shape
  • Instead, focus on improving your own health. Do something every day that makes you feel wonderful in your body and helps you to radiate light from inside. Stunningly beautiful, to say the least.
  • This is a message to all of the ladies who are now reading this: Stand close to your buddies and give them words of encouragement. Please refrain from spreading rumors or pulling people apart. Instead, be a truth-teller fighter in the face of whatever strife is occurring. To reach a settlement, everyone must work together. KG:Can you tell me about someone who inspires you and whom you look up to? I learned how to be an amazing leader from Cherokee Chief Wilma Mankiller, who taught me how to be one. She motivates her followers to take action in order to benefit themselves and others. It is awe-inspiring to watch Jose Calarco, the creator and director of the âDescendanceâ theatrical and cultural activities. The indigenous peoples of Australia are benefiting from his efforts. They are able to share the deeply moving songs and dances of their people with the rest of the globe while also gaining meaningful work through Descendance. Descendance provides hope for the future for the Aboriginals participating by linking them to the ceremonial heart of their people, which they actually dance in the process. I’ve made a personal commitment to myself: to find my own source of inspiration and work from there, rather than succumbing to ennui. I am motivated by the desire to fulfill my Spirit Pledge by contributing to the Mending (Healing) of the Hoop of the People. This is what keeps me going. When I go about my business, I make a difference. That gives me a lot of hope. Aim to be an inspiration to oneself on a daily basis. Have a good time with it! KG:Can you tell me about one of your favorite spots on the planet? Ana: I have a plethora of favorite locations! For example, Waimnalo Beach in Hawaii has a cave in the cliffs above Bondi Beach, Australia, which is high above the ocean. Banff, Canada, and Orcas Island, Washington also have caves above the water. KG:Can you tell me about your favorite KiraGrace item and why you like it? Ana: Recently, I’ve been smitten with the Flirt One Shoulder Tank (Wildcat) and matching trousers from Wildcat. Despite the fact that it is a spotty cat rather than a stripy cat, it pays homage to my Wild Cat, which I appreciate. A graduate of Anthony Robbins Master University, Ana is an ordained practitioner of Native American medicine who also holds the titles of Reiki Master and Certified Regression Therapist. Besides being a faculty member at The University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic, she also serves on the boards of directors for the Foundation for Athletic Research and Education, as well as EarthSky Circle, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental awareness (organization for Native American Ceremony). She has received a Mayoral Commendation from the City of Los Angeles in recognition of her exceptional teaching and healing work in the community. This is the first time a major U.S. city has conferred such an award on a yoga teacher or yogini. Besides contributing to Yoga Journal on a regular basis, Ana serves as a consultant to the USAF 48th Fighter Wing (RAF Lakenheath, UK), the Exalted Warrior Foundation (Tampa, FL), and the nonprofit organization (Newcastle, UK). Recently, I received an extraordinary gift: an interview with Ana Forrest, one of my favorite yoga legends, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Unlike your usual worldwide yoga rockstar, Ana Forrest is a yoga teacher from the United States. In fact, if I labeled her a rock star, she’d probably rebuke me and claim that she is a modern-day Medicine woman. (Actually, the more I get to know Ana, the more I think she’d. Yoga for the 21st Century: A Q&A with Ana Forrest

Ana Forrest is regarded as a pioneer in the fields of yoga and emotional therapy all over the world. Her own life events and experiences, as well as those of her children, inspired her to develop Forrest Yoga®. Forrest Yoga is a holy discovery of truth, healing, and “the Great Mystery,” and she guides pupils through this sacred inquiry. Here, she discusses the Forrest Yoga method, the importance of ceremony in teacher training, and how personal development is a necessary component of becoming a genuine yoga instructor.

  1. Forrest Yoga is suitable for everyone who has a physical physique.
  2. It is appropriate for people of various ages, talents, body kinds, and personalities.
  3. Most significantly, many people have lost touch with their spiritual selves.
  4. I’ve devised positions and rituals that are intended to aid in the healing of these ailments.
  5. In Forrest Yoga, we hold positions for five to ten breaths on average, depending on the type of sequence we are doing.
  • You have the opportunity to get more connected to your breath and develop proficiency in breathing into the places that require release of entrapment and uptake of fresh nutrients. You increase your strength and vigor. You really start to get into the stance. You are aware of your own body. You are aware of the activities of your mind. Take your time to enjoy the delicacy of the posture. Some of us are having a completely different and great experience
  • You are developing kinesthetic intelligence. When you maintain the stance for an extended period of time, the large muscular groups on which you rely will get fatigued. We guide you through the process of tracking and turning on the non-dominant. You are able to access new levels of strength. It’s empowering
  • Nevertheless, your brain may tell you that it’s time to give up at times. No, it isn’t! Learning to ride the wave of intensity in a yoga posture in a pain-free, struggle-free manner can benefit you in all part of your life, including your career. You increase your self-esteem. We educate you to take responsibility for your own progress via amazing, compassionate postures that incorporate Forrest Yoga principles like as establishing an intention, respecting First People and the Land we are teaching on, ancient and modern ceremonial music, prayer, invocation, and adventure. You learn to live and love once more
  • You learn to forgive.

What methods do you use to train instructors to become proficient in the art of sequence? So, what kind of understanding do you need in order to perfect this skill? Practice! Throughout the course of the program, our participants get a hands-on sense for what Forrest Yoga sequencing feels like in their own bodies. In this way, they learn what works and what doesn’t, as well as the fact that each Forrest Yoga stance has a specific function. Throughout the program, our participants put their sequencing skills to the test.

  1. These are critical steps in developing their sequencing abilities.
  2. Because they believe they know something, it is the intermediate pupils who are toughest to work with.” The question is, how can you aid advanced students in “unlearning” or realizing that “they don’t know anything” so that they may return to the mindset of a beginning.
  3. Our trainees are guided through the process of redeploying their energy and concentrating on what matters most.
  4. When it comes to your teacher training programs, what is the significance of ceremony?
  5. Jose and I have woven together a powerful, beauty-filled experience based on our shared years of study and practice as healers, as well as our mutual interest in indigenous culture and love of nature.
  6. We utilize our breath and our desire to go into the mystery of our own being, in order to reach the next stage of healing and learning.
  7. We assist individuals in making the transition from the ordinary to the extraordinary via the use of ceremony.

The Forrest Yoga teacher trainings begin each morning with a ritual of music, singing, and invocation that may include a smoke ceremony if it is possible, led by Jose.

Morning Ceremony is a great tool for setting the tone for the practice and the rest of the day.

Jose and I have a phrase that goes something like this: “Your personal metamorphosis reshapes the universe.” In both your personal and professional lives, transformation is essential.

Jose and I collaborate on the creation of a wonderful and safe environment for change.

For instructors, this is frequently the internal monologue that manifests itself in the real world as a lack of confidence or arrogance, for example.

We have a vested interest in the development of our trainees.

For the instructor, teaching from that place of sincerity and truth brings a great deal of satisfaction, while also inspiring and thrilling for their pupils.

As they get more adept at receiving nourishment from their victories, they begin to repair the neediness that exists inside them.

Because of this, they become a more complete human person, and therefore a more effective teacher.

On January 12, 2010, it was reviewed in the United States and verified as a purchase. Ana has an extremely amazing teaching approach – she is thorough and patient, but she also reaches deep into your inner power and soul to guide you. Every detail of her guidance is spot on. Yes, this exercise is more difficult than most, and you will feel it in your bones and muscles throughout the day. That is precisely the objective. I would strongly suggest this DVD to yogis who are intermediate or advanced in their practice.

This is a fantastic yoga exercise to do.

During savashana, the only thing I have to say is that she should speak a lot less than she does.

On November 4, 2018, a review was published in the United States, confirming the purchase.

This was a challenging course, but one that was definitely worth doing.

Purchase that has been verified This DVD was a disappointment to me.

She shows a couple of positions and then she’s done.

There is a special features segment where she and her husband are performing yoga/gymnastic skills, and I felt like I shouldn’t have been there to witness that.

The following, on the other hand, was far more enjoyable: Power Yoga with Bryan Kest, Ashtanga Yoga with Nicki Doane, and Baron Baptiste’s Power Yoga series are just a few of the options available.

I’m sorry, but I have to disagree with the prior commenter.

I have found Ana Forrest’s teaching approaches to be really effective and beneficial in my experience with various sorts of studio yogas as well as video yogas, among other things.

This video varies from others that feature sun salutations in that the amount of time you have to practice a position is a little longer in this one.

This sort of class makes you stronger in general, as well as when it comes to abdominal work.

I’ve practiced hot yoga, hatha yoga, kundalini yoga, and other styles of yoga, but the Forrest style is probably my favorite of them all.

There are several advantages to practicing this approach, including the ability to hold a position for a longer period of time and genuinely develop strength and flexibility deep within the body as opposed to simply rushing through a pose.

However, it is still hard for more experienced students.

Finally, Ana Forrest herself possesses an astonishingly agile and graceful physique, despite the fact that she herself acknowledges that she has had to work really, extremely hard to get it.

Personally, as a lady who is several decades her junior, I would do anything to acquire her physique!

Athletes of that class always have a wealth of important information to share with their peers and fans.

On July 19, 2006, a review was conducted in the United States.

I uncovered parts of myself that I would never have guessed were there – or, maybe more accurately, my breath revealed them to me.

More significantly, Ana’s guidance assists in the process of self-discovery.

You’ll understand what I’m talking about if you put in the effort.

Remember that I am recuperating from cancer (prostate), and this is a part of my recovery process, which I regard to be normal.

In addition, I study Russian martial arts (Systema).

Physical conditioning may be quite taxing on the body.

My training group was completely taken aback when I showed them one of Ana’s performances; and these are folks who are not readily impressed.

On October 22, 2007, a review was conducted in the United States.

Her shoulder flexibility routine, for example, is excellent, and she also includes a lot of quick sun salutations that are excellent for core strength and really work the arms with a lot of plank/chatarongas.

Additionally, there is no music, which is a little strange.

This curriculum, in my opinion, did a poor job of emphasizing the need of flexibility.

However, I would recommend pairing it with a program that focuses on holding poses for better flexibility.

This yoga routine is fantastic.

This session is a shortened version of the hour-long session, which is OK with me because I don’t always want to devote a full hour to a single task or task-related activity.

On the negative side, and as is the case with many yoga DVDs, I wish there was a track that did not include any additional comments that were not directly linked to the posture. Hearing them over and over again makes me a little insane.

Top reviews from other countries

4.0 stars out of 5 for this product Forest yoga is one of my favorite forms of exercise, and when I tried the DVD, I was hooked. On November 4, 2016, a reviewer in the United Kingdom expressed satisfaction with their purchase. Forest yoga is one of my favorite forms of exercise, and I was delighted with the DVD. It’s the next best thing to my Forrest class at my local yoga studio, and I wish Anna had more dvds available on Amazon, which she doesn’t. I’ve also read her book, which is excellent.
