Yoga Escape: Meditate in the Mountains of Asheville, NC

Subscribe to Outside+ now to get unique access to all of our content, including sequences, instructor tips, video lessons, and much more. I wanted to get away from the monotony of my home office in Charlotte for a few days, so I booked a weekend trip to Asheville. Along with its bohemian attitude and breathtaking scenery, this laid-back city has always held a fascination for those seeking a healthier lifestyle. For centuries, people have drawn to this region for the therapeutic properties of the fresh mountain air and adjacent mineral springs, and today’s abundance of yoga studios, spas, and holistic treatment choices contributes to the region’s health-conscious culture.

The first destination on the tour was Asheville’s Salt Cave, which is billed as a therapeutic rest and healing retreat.

Following a guided meditation, the group sat peacefully until awakened by Cameron Gunter of Travelling Yogini Yoga Tours, who would be our guide for the next leg of the tour, which would combine city wandering with yoga.

Make a reservation for this yoga retreat in the Catskills.

A short walk from the bustling Pack Square Park, she guided us through 15 minutes of standing positions on a green field.

After that, we went to Wake: The Foot Sanctuary Shop, where we bathed our feet in cauldrons of warm, sudsy water laced with aromatic oils before heading home.

  1. The crystal salt enclosed the room, which was chilly and gloomy and had a lunar feel to it.
  2. We were awakened by Cameron Gunter of Travelling Yogini Yoga Tours, our leader for the second portion of the program, which combined city wandering with yoga.

  4. When we were out walking with him, he talked about history and architecture, drawing our attention to the glitzy Art Deco design of Asheville’s landmark buildings from the 1920s and 1930s.
  5. Nobody appeared to notice us despite the flurry of activity surrounding us—street entertainers, passing trolley cars, and so on.

I departed with a sense of tranquility, as if I had peeled aside the superficial tourist veneer, allowing me to genuinely discover and enjoy this vibrant city (for more info: yogatours.net).

No therapy that I have received here has been anything other than excellent in every way.

Everything, from the breathtaking landscape of the mountains to the sumptuous accommodations to the spa treatments to the yoga classes, was outstanding.

It was really incredible.

Everyone in this room was a pleasure to spend time with.

It was something I’m so pleased I was able to share.

I’m in such good spirits that I feel like I could jazzercize!
