Once you understand these four dimensions of life, you will understand everything else as well. In order to do so, we must first understand the body and the mind. Space, air, fire, water, and earth are the five elements that make up the human body. These constituents act physiologically as three bio-dynamic forces, which are referred to as vata, pitta, and kapha. These are referred to as dhatus, substances, dosha, or prakriti, our innate constitution, depending on who you ask.

  • The five elements (Panchamahabhutas) unite to generate three fundamental bio energies, or doshas, which are kapha, vata, and pitta in their combined state.
  • Each of these doshas has its own set of characteristics.
  • The vata dosha is represented by the element of air, and it is the driving force behind all bodily activities.
  • It corresponds to the dosha of grounding.
  • People who are born with a strong connection to the elements of space and air are said to have a vata constitution.
  • An individual with high vata will generally be very skinny, chatty, and restless; they will also have a reduced body weight, dry skin and nails that are easily broken, thin hair, and tiny, somewhat sunken eyes.
  • When it comes to climate, they tend to enjoy warm or hot weather, and they may have difficulty coping with cold weather.
  • Vata is present in the belly below the navel and includes the colon, pelvis, and pelvic organs, as well as the skin, ears, nervous system, and lungs.
  • It is in charge of the movement of the body and the intellect as well.

  1. Get to bed at 10:00 p.m. and up by 6:00 a.m. every day
  2. Continue to adhere to a daily schedule that includes regular eating, sleeping, and working hours (dinacharya)
  3. Beverages should be served hot and meals should be freshly cooked and hot. Consume foods that have naturally occurring sweet, sour, and salty flavors
  4. Incorporate significant amounts of high-quality oils or ghee, as well as warming spices such as ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, and cumin, into your regular diet
  5. And Stay away from alcoholic beverages, caffeinated beverages, and chocolate. Incorporate a regular workout program into your week’s activities. Herbs and therapies that are vata-reducing

Then there are pitta individuals, who are born with hotter constitutions that include a higher concentration of the fire element. Tendonitis, herpes, jaundice, bad breath, conjunctivitis, pharyngitis, dissatisfaction, stomatitis, fibromyalgia, redness of the skin, low blood sugar, and other symptoms

Pitta-Balancing Herbs and Supplements

  1. Continue to adhere to a daily schedule that includes regular eating, sleeping, and working hours (dinacharya)
  2. Cooking using ghee, also known as clarified butter, is recommended. Throughout the day, drink 4—5 litres of warm or room temperature water. Stay in the company of folks who are upbeat and optimistic
  3. Meditation is the key to having a peaceful mind. It aids in the regulation of emotions such as anger and impatience, among others. It is advised that you meditate for a few minutes twice a day. Because the kapha kind of person is the least disturbed and most contented sort of person on the earth, according to Ayurveda, the kapha constitution is considered the best constitution. They have a positive attitude all the time!

  1. The skin may also be thick and wet to the touch, as well as a bit cold to the touch.

The word on the street is that everyone is talking about taking more baths. Since the implementation of lockdown last year, it appears that many of us are choosing for a bath or two rather than our showers. Bathing is officially back, according to the folks I’ve spoken to, whether it’s because we have the time (due to an empty social schedule and no drive into work) or because we need the R R. Bathing has traditionally been revered in India as a holy and therapeutic activity, beneficial not just to the physical body but also to the spirit.

  1. Swimming is considered a contemplative and purifying activity according to Ayurveda, and the Ashtanga Hridayam (an old Ayurvedic literature) attributes increased sleep, hunger, sexual vigor and excitement to the practice of swimming in water.
  2. According to Ayurveda, bathing is recommended shortly before sunrise and just before sunset, a practice known as Snana, as part of a ritual that corresponds to the changing of the day.
  3. Bathing in the morning is the greatest time to bathe if you can only wash once a day.
  4. Getting out of bed early — at least 45 minutes before showering — is essential to avoid jumping into something that may cause your body temperature to shift immediately.
  5. If you haven’t already, start now.
  6. As a result, you can see why yogis and those who practice Ayurvedic Wisdom rise before the sun – not just to take advantage of the day’s quiet but productive energy, but also to fit in this health enhancing self care regimen!
  7. It’s best done at the beginning of your evening and before supper, but in the Western world, we’re accustomed to doing it as our final ritual of the day.

In the first step, we should consider our Dosha, or mind-body type, when drawing our bath.

Try out this Dosha test to have a better understanding of your mind-body type and personality.

Instead of using harsh artificial lighting, use a natural candle to illuminate the room.

Keep your phone away from you, and avoid watching anything on your laptop or tablet at all costs.

If you find this too tough, you may try playing some calming music or one of my digital sound baths over some speakers (which should be either waterproof or at a long distance away from the water!).

This is most effective for those with Kapha constitutions (and less frequently for Pitta and Vata types).

Keep in mind that while it may feel wonderful on thin and dry-skinned Vata types (and awaken the body), it will be too abrasive and stimulating to do frequently or aggressively, and that it will irritate and heat up Pitta types — both of which will aggravate their dominant Doshas.

WHEN IT COMES TO goods, putting a few drops of essential oils straight into the water can help you get the most soothing or energizing and well-being-inducing experience.

While some of them (roses, for example) might be considered an investment, keep in mind that a little goes a long way.

Choose sandalwood, rose, or jasmine, for example, to help with Vata (or evening wind-down).

Choose gardenia, mint, or camomile for Pitta (or another nighttime wind-down choice if your mind or body is running “hot”).

Choose herbs such as basil, cedar, or ginger that are warming and invigorating for the Kapha dosha.

Use natural products while washing your clothes, and avoid synthetic smells and formulae that may feel and smell wonderful, but are not good for your body or the environment.
