There aren’t many healthful Halloween goodies to be found at most grocery shops, unfortunately. Yes, Whole Foods Market does, but their prices are sometimes too expensive for most consumers. Once again, keep the special sweets for Mama’s enjoyment. It’s also inconvenient for me to go from one place to another looking for choices when I can get them from the comfort of my own home (hello, Amazon Prime!). And I can get better bargains online than I can at most health food stores, which is an added bonus.

Despite the fact that the COVID-19 epidemic has changed the way Halloween is celebrated, here are some ways to make your at-home party both enjoyable and healthful.

Remember Balance

Keep in mind that Halloween is just one day a year, and that it is the food that children consume on a daily basis that has the most influence on their nutrition and health. As an alternative to denying children access to sweets and sweet treats, provide them with healthful snacks first and then the sweet treats later, when they’ve had a chance to get their fill of more nutritious items. Choosing orange foods for the healthier selections, such as carrots or baked sweet potato fries, is one suggestion.

Life is all about finding a healthy balance, and learning to live a moderate lifestyle is where the real action lies.

Reduce your intake of gluten if you choose, and sugar isn’t going to help you feel any better, but making those reductions so that you may continue to enjoy the foods you prefer in moderate amounts is what it’s all about.

Larabar Class Action Lawsuit Says Ingredient List is Misleading

A customer claims that Larabars’ ingredient label is deceptive since it purports that the bars include only fruits and nuts, whereas in fact one of the bars’ key components is dates, which are rich in sugar and hence should be avoided. Plaintiff Barbara Evans has filed a Larabar ingredient class action lawsuit against Small Planet Foods Inc., the company that manufactures Larabar, on behalf of the general public. She claims that the corporation deliberately misrepresents its goods as being healthful and low in sugar, and that this is done on purpose.

According to the Larabar class action lawsuit, Small Planet Foods purposefully markets Larabars as containing just fruit and nuts in order to capitalize on customers’ predilection for natural foods by marketing Larabars as such.

The Larabar class action complaint further claims that customers recognize items as “natural” in part if they have a limited number of ingredients mentioned on the label, because this has been connected with products being created from identifiable and not synthetic substances.

As reported by the Associated Press, dates account for a significant portion of what is described as “fruit” in the ingredient list.

Specifically, the Larabar ingredients class action lawsuit claims that when consumers choose products that contain fruit rather than candy, or products that contain fruit but do not contain a lot of extra sweeteners, they are assuming that the product will contain a low amount of sugar and will be beneficial to their health.

  1. Customers purchase Larabars under the impression that they are acquiring a sugar-free food, but in fact they are purchasing a product that is heavy in sugar and has less health advantages than other fruits, according to Evans’s argument.
  2. A second claim made in the Larabar ingredient list class action complaint is that the ingredient list on Larabars is deceptive in other respects as well.
  3. Citric acid, on the other hand, is omitted from the ingredient listings, according to some reports.
  4. Because consumers would be less inclined to purchase the product if they were aware that the bars contained a preservative, Evans believes that Larabar purposefully does not mention citric acid in its ingredient listings.
