The objective of Strala Yoga inventor Tara Stilesset during her pregnancy and the delivery of her now two-and-a-half-month-old daughter, Daisy, was to move with ease in every moment. Even though the timing was a little “frightening,” Stiles says she was overjoyed to discover that she was expecting a child. When we found out we were expecting, we were on our way to an Asia and European event tour the very following day, so I was a little apprehensive about all of the traveling and rigorous scheduling so early in pregnancy.” While I was packing, I decided to take a pregnancy test just in case, and lo and behold, I was pregnant.” She said that she felt OK for the first week of the vacation, but then suffered from “morning/all-day illness for the remainder of it.” It was a demanding vacation in terms of scheduling—even for someone who was not pregnant—and all of the yoga I had done to keep my body and mind as relaxed as possible came in helpful.” She credits her own practice with helping her “a great deal” throughout her pregnancy.

“I felt fantastic after the first trimester and was able to continue traveling into the late fall.” The group was in Berlin and London for a program, and it was wonderful to be with everyone and to exercise every day in a way that made us feel so happy.

“I was very beat up in the beginning, but after a week, I was ready to get back on the mat and do some extra-gentle moves,” she says.

Ep. 108 – Surprising lessons from lockdown with Tara Stiles — MOTHERKIND

Tara Stiles will be my guest on this week’s program, which I am quite happy about. Tara is the originator of Strala Yoga, which is a new technique to moving, being, and healing that she developed with her husband. In more than 100 nations, Strala is practiced, with thousands of guides giving sessions in locations all around the world. Additionally, Tara is the author of several best-selling books published by Hay House, including Strala Yoga and the Make Your Own Rules Diet. As Tara’s daughter, Daisy, was born a few years ago, I was particularly interested in hearing about her experiences transitioning from leading a tremendously successful worldwide business to living as a mother to a three-year-old.

I was interested to learn about Tara’s experiences with lockdown because she is a vivacious young lady with a lot of energy, and I was keen to hear about her experiences over the last few months.

  • She had a strong desire to learn new things and to be of service to others. (11:08)

Obtaining a Positive Outcome

  • Tara does not consider things like being able to purchase a beautiful home to be indicative of success. (13:24)
  • Instead of being a destination, success is more of a continuous process of attempting to make a positive difference in the lives of others via what you do. (13:59)
  • Her ultimate objective is to ensure long-term viability. (16:06)

How to Deal with Adversity:

  • She has found that the practice she shares with others is beneficial to her as well. (16:55)
  • You may improve your relationship with yourself by practicing yoga and meditation.
  • She understands that slowing down, moving with your breath, and connecting with yourself are the best things for her at this time. (17:48)

What Your Parenting Behaviour Looks Like When Your Energy Is High

  • Having a stiff shoulder or the general manner you approach the infant might indicate that you’re stressed out and need to relax. (18:51)
  • It took some time for Tara to become comfortable with the idea of being a mother. (19:19)
  • She learnt to interact with children as though they were real individuals. She believes that speaking is more beautiful than dominating. (19:39)

When you become a mother, you learn new things about yourself.

  • Tara considered herself to be a laid-back person before becoming a mother, but she found herself becoming more uptight after becoming a mother. (21:00)
  • Despite the fact that she teaches about mindfulness and moving in harmony, she still has to practice these concepts herself in order to alleviate tension and fear. (21:28)

Finding the Willingness to Accept More Opportunities:

  • When we are putting up barriers and protecting our energy, it is easy to become distracted. However, there is much to be said for branching out and taking a break from your typical interests and routine. (24:07)
  • During the lockdown, Tara realized that she needed to allow herself to relax in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Her realization came at the 24:57 mark, when she realized she couldn’t do everything perfectly all of the time. Instead, she should simply follow her instincts and do what seems right. (26:11)

Keeping in Touch with Others During the Lockdown

  • Tara first perceived the lockdown as a valuable opportunity for her family to spend quality time together while trying new activities. (28:11)
  • Since 2008, she has always had a digital connection as part of her everyday existence. (28:53)

Experiencing a Lockdown with her daughter

  • Daisy, her kid, had a few meltdowns, which gave her the opportunity to convey how much she misses particular individuals. The lockdown has allowed her to spend more time with her kid, which she appreciates (30:28). (31:03)

TARA’S WALKING MEDITATION

Concentrate on your breathing while you walk. Keep an eye on your inhales and exhales to see how they arrive and leave. As you walk, pay attention to the sensations that arise in your body. As you proceed, begin to extend and deeper your inhales and exhales, pausing for a little while at the top and bottom of each inhalation and exhale. Make this a daily practice to help you get into the habit, and reap the rewards! Starting a meditation practice, on the other hand, might be intimidating. It can be difficult for beginners to silence their minds or limit the flow of their thoughts, and they may feel as if they don’t know enough about the practice to get started.

  • No particular space in your home or special clothing is required; instead, just be yourself.’ If you like, you may just lie in your jammies, sitting as comfortably as you can in your bed,’ she explained.
  • For example, your body will lift up a little bit when you inhale, and your body will relax and move a little easier when you exhale.
  • Tara advises that people who want extra assistance ask themselves three questions to help frame their practice, which she describes as follows: ‘It might be anything as basic as, “What exactly am I?
  • “Prior to pointing out that one should not feel obligated to discover answers to these questions right once, but should instead use them as a ‘check-in,’ she remarked, What’s the harm in trying?
  • Tara says that meditation has made her feel like she’s working on a ‘deeper level’ rather than simply going through her to-do list each day has helped her feel more connected.
  • Keeping it simple is the best approach: While some people find it difficult to meditate, Tara, who has just introduced a line of health teas, believes it doesn’t have to be a time-consuming endeavor.

TARA’S MEDITATION AT THE OFFICE

Take a seat at your desk or another peaceful location. Make yourself comfortable by stretching a bit side to side and sitting in any position you desire. Close your eyes and focus your attention on your breath for a moment. As you inhale and exhale, pay attention to how they arrive and disappear. Even if you catch yourself thinking, it’s fine—just bring your attention back to your breath. Do this for a few seconds, allowing yourself to relax into your breath. Take a mental inventory of everything you’re grateful for in your life right now, and write it down.

  1. For a few seconds after you’ve completed, return your attention to your breathing.
  2. Tara herself tries to meditate first thing in the morning and last thing at night before bed to relax before bed.
  3. ‘When I meditate on a daily basis, I feel more connected to myself as a whole,’ she explained.
  4. In addition, Tara added that it is possible to have a few minutes of relaxing time at the workplace without ever leaving your desk, which is ideal for individuals who find it too boring to meditate in this manner.
