They used to come to me virtually every day when they were tiny, complaining of scratches, bites, and bruises that needed to be attended to. Keeping a first-aid kit on hand was something I learned the hard way—at the house, in the vehicle, and in our bags. My first-aid kit, on the other hand, contained more than just bandages, sterile pads, and antiseptic treatments.
Nita Desai, Dr.
Deepak Chopra, who taught me how to provide safe and natural therapies for their scrapes and cuts.
Even better, many of these may be created with ingredients and spices that you already have in your cupboard.
Honey is referred to as “golden medicine” by my children and I because of its golden color, delicious flavor, and potent medical capabilities. HONEY is high in antioxidants as well as antibiotics and anti-inflammatory properties. When used topically, it aids in the healing and regeneration of the skin after cuts and burns. If you have nightly coughing or a strained nervous system, you can take a teaspoon of honey and consume it. Raw, unfiltered, locally sourced honey is an excellent solution to seasonal allergies due to its anti-inflammatory properties.
It creates ama, which is a form of “toxic waste” that clogs up your system and causes it to malfunction.

Curcumin, a polyphenol found in turmeric, has anti-inflammatory qualities that can be used to reduce headaches, joint or muscular pain, and other symptoms of inflammation. My go-to drink after a difficult exercise or a long walk is a “turmeric mocktail,” which means “turmeric mocktail.” In a glass of warm water, I combine one teaspoon of turmeric with a little amount of honey, a splash of fresh lemon juice, and a dash of black pepper to make a tea. I also have a jar of turmeric and honey paste in the kitchen and take a tablespoon three to four times a day for cough and cold relief.
My first-aid kit always has crystallized ginger or ginger drops on hand for case someone starts to feel nauseated, carsick, or run down for any reason. Ginger tea is also beneficial. Steep fresh ginger in boiling water for 10–15 minutes, depending on how big the pieces are. Pour it into a glass jar and top it with honey and freshly squeezed lemon juice, then drink it throughout the day. Congestion is avoided during the winter (vata) season and mucus is expelled during the spring (kapha) season by taking this supplement.
The fact that it contains warming and energizing characteristics means that pittatypes should be cautious about how much they consume, especially on hot summer days.
Chamomile has a calming effect on both the body and the psyche. The moderate flavor and calming scent of chamomile tea help to relieve stomachaches, indigestion, insomnia, and stress by relaxing the body and mind. In addition, because it is so mild, you may drink it throughout the day. For colds or other respiratory difficulties, sipping warm tea and inhaling the fragrant steam will help loosen up mucus in the chest and nasal cavities, which can help relieve congestion.
When traveling, it might be difficult to keep your digestive system running smoothly. It is a combination of three Ayurvedic fruits (amalaki, haritaki, and bibhitaki) that helps to cleanse and tone the intestinal lining without causing irritation to the intestines. Making a paste of equal parts triphala and honey and consuming one teaspoon of it after meals is recommended in Dr. Douillard’s book, Perfect Health for Kids. If you prefer, you can make Triphalatea by mixing 1/2 teaspoon in a cup of boiling water and drinking it once or twice a day.
Using a blend of cumin, coriander, and fennel as a digestive aid also works well. Dr. Nita Desai gave CCF tea to me many years ago for digestive problems I was experiencing. Despite the fact that my digestion is considerably better today, I still drink this tea on occasion to relieve bloating, menstrual cramps, and to compensate for overeating. The preparation is straightforward: 12 teaspoons of each spice are added to 4 cups of boiling water. After 5–10 minutes, strain it and keep it warm for the rest of the day.
Ashwagandha, often known as Indian Cherry, is an adaptogen herb that I can’t seem to get enough of. Because of its calming and immune-boosting properties, I take it year-round to help me stay calm and grounded, as well as to help me sleep better.I take one or two 500 milligram capsules in the morning and at bedtime, and I also drink Ashwaghada tea in the evening.I give it to my children during stressful times and during cold and flu season to help them stay calm and grounded. As a result, I disguise the bitter flavor by mixing it into their smoothies, chai, or hot chocolate.
If they handle it well, you can progressively raise the dosage until it reaches 1 teaspoon once or twice a day when they require more immunological and nervous system support.
Himalayan rock salt
The antibacterial and antiviral effects of rock salt are well known. Salt water gargling has been shown to be quite efficient in reducing respiratory tract infections in one research.
A simple oral rinse may be made by mixing 14 to 12 teaspoons of baking soda into eight ounces of warm water to ease sore throats, irritation in the mouth, and uncomfortable gums for a low cost. I sometimes add a 12 teaspoon of turmeric to my smoothies to give them an extra anti-inflammatory punch.
This delectable herbal jam is something I have on hand at all times. It has a high concentration of minerals and vitamins. It contains one of the greatest sources of bio-available vitamin C available (amalaki, also known as Indian gooseberry, is one of the components.) Dr. Douillard suggests taking a teaspoon of turmeric first thing in the morning to help increase strength, stamina, and immunity. If you’re dealing with a cold, weariness, or stress, you should take it many times a day. When served directly from the jar, on a cracker, or combined with warm water, this jam is delicious.
Aloe Vera gel
Aloe Vera is a plant that has medical properties. Its antiseptic, antibacterial, and antiviral effects have been recognized by Ayurveda and other traditional systems of medicine. The aloe vera gel I use topically to treat sunburns, wounds, insect bites, and inflammatory skin problems such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis is derived from the leaves of the plant. Another discovery is that a tablespoon of aloe vera juice—fresh from the plant or store-bought—mixed with 12 ounces of filtered water may be used as a cooling and affordable skin toner and hair rinse for itchiness and dandruff on the scalp and hair.

10 Essential Items to Include in Your First Aid Kit
A well-stocked First Aid Kit will enable you to respond to a wide range of injuries and emergency circumstances, and it may even save a life if you are in an emergency scenario. Someone who is new with first aid treatment, on the other hand, may not be aware of the goods that should be included in their first aid kit. In spite of the fact that many manufacturers provide perfectly excellent packed outfits, it is possible to save money, become more familiar with your equipment, and obtain higher-quality goods by purchasing individual items.
First Aid Kit Essentials
The following are some of the most important components of any excellent first aid kit. ACE Bandage is a bandage that is used to treat a variety of injuries. ACE bandages are a highly adaptable tool that may be used to provide support and compression for small joint injuries such as twists, sprains, and other minor joint ailments. These bandages are both washable and reusable, and they retain their suppleness for an unexpectedly long period of time. Look for a model that has Velcro closures rather than the traditional metal fasteners for the most ease of usage.
They may also be used to absorb blood or even as kindling in an emergency situation.
Although it is advised that you have a choice of pad sizes in your first aid kit, you may also bring a pair of scissors and simply cut bigger gauze pads to match the circumstance if necessary.
However, while regular adhesive tape will suffice in an emergency, medical tape is specially formulated so that it does not leave behind any residue or adhere too closely to the skin, which is critical when you are trying to prevent a wound from potentially reopening when you are removing your bandages.
- Try to choose a pair of gloves that close firmly and have a solid grip; the ideal option is a pair with a pointed or angled tip that allows you to see what you’re doing.
- Antiseptic wash should be used with a few alcohol swabs in case you need to treat or clean hard-to-reach locations or instruments throughout the cleaning process.
- Hands-on protection against blood-borne pathogens not only ensures that dirt and bacteria are not accidentally introduced into a wound, but also protects against the possibility of coming into contact with them.
- SAM SplintSAM splints are aluminum splints that are lightweight and flexible, and they can be folded up to save space when not in use.
- When properly folded, they can even be used in extreme emergency cases, such as those involving neck or spinal injuries.
- They are also available in a variety of colors.
- These pain medications also aid in the prevention of the body’s creation of prostaglandins, which are responsible for a portion of the swelling, inflammation, and fever associated with injury.
- If you have sprained wrists or ankles, or if you have any other joint issues that might potentially limit your movement, it is very crucial to do so.
- Because they achieve their ideal temperature through a chemical process, they do not require refrigeration and may be stored in any first aid box.
- You should look for a box that is available in a number of different sizes, as this will provide you with protection for everything from cuts and scrapes to minor burns.
- These can be useful as a back-up in the event that you lose or use up your antiseptic wash.
Assembling your kit with the resources listed above allows you to ensure the quality of each piece while also becoming more familiar with the operation of each component.
