Using a cute and short tale to teach children how to practice yoga postures is a fantastic method to begin or ignite an interest in yoga in young children and toddlers. During the last five years, there has been a proliferation of visually appealing and engaging yoga books on the market. I had to basically make standard novels into yoga stories my first year of teaching yoga in a public school by devising a position for each character or page in my first year of teaching yoga. Listed below are the greatest “normal” novels I’ve come across that were suitable for including yoga postures.

Creating your own yoga story from the ground up is also entertaining and beneficial! This worked rather well, although it was more difficult to demonstrate all of the positions personally, making it more difficult to retain engagement.

Now, there are plenty of amazing yoga books and yoga stories for sale online, in bookstores, and on Amazon.

A large number of yoga books have been purchased for use in my teaching. For my pupils to utilize during their autonomous centers and in the “Mindfulness Reflect Zone,” I have them out on a table for them to use. Additionally, I enjoy utilizing them to lead a complete yoga class through a yoga sequence. It works particularly well if your class is arranged in a circle, and most students find it convenient to have space right next to their desk! They might feel a little crowded, but they’ll still have a good time and get the advantages of doing yoga in general.

One aspect that, in my view, contributes to a good yoga narrative is for each page to feature a new animal or object from which to develop a position. Following that, it’s preferable if there aren’t too many words on each page. Using this method, they will have enough time to practice a stance while also listening to the words before going on to the next pose. Another feature that high-quality yoga books should include is a section that describes how to perform each posture, either during the tale or after.

So, without further ado, here are my favorite yoga stories for teaching kids how to do yoga, and letting them discover yoga on their own!

SonJoria Sydnor’s poem Our Family Is Practicing Yoga A book sparked the interest of a mother and yogi who want to see more representation of African-Americans in the field of yoga. One of my favorite books is about a family who practices yoga together and uses the time to interact with one another, play games, and keep healthy together. This book is a must-have for any family or school library. A delightful children’s yoga book with positive affirmations (in either English or bilingual Spanish edition) by Sandy Zanella is available.

It’s a terrific book for trying some fun wild animal inspired yoga positions because it has rhyming poetry to go along with each stance.

Heather Leah and Sandie Sonke’s collaboration A beautifully designed board book that includes 13 yoga poses for children of various ages and abilities.

Excellent for introducing children to yoga or for practicing positions that you are already familiar with!

This delightful story, which is a new book by Teresa Anne Power, follows a mouse and a cat, as well as a little girl named Tammy, as they visit the zoo.

This is a very beautiful tale!

There are a slew of these books that have this tiny dot on the cover that learns life skills and practices emotional awareness via repetition.

A nice feature of the yoga book is that it incorporates a little yoga and mindfulness into the practice of learning how to concentrate.

Giselle Shardlow’s story about Anna and her rainbow-colored yoga mats Kid’s Yoga Stories is a series of novels written by Giselle Shardlow.

I utilize a number of her books in my classroom, largely to allow students to imitate the stances they see in the books on their own.

I appreciate that the stories take place in a variety of locations across the world, and that the characters are all distinct in their own ways.

In it, a small girl who doesn’t quite fit in is depicted, but she nonetheless practices yoga because she enjoys going on “adventures” throughout the world.

An important lesson is conveyed through this emotional work.

Zoo Zen: A Yoga Story for Kids, written by Kristen Fischer and Susi Schaefer, is out now.

I truly adore the charming photographs, the darling child named Lyla with her curly hair, and the basic and easy-to-do postures in the book.

This year, I had a kindergartener who would enter into the room and immediately walk up to my bookshelf and take this book down and execute every position on every page.

Each page depicts a different yoga stance as well as an animal that Lyla encounters while visiting the zoo.

Yoga in the morning and Yoga in the evening.

Beautifully illustrated pose-by-pose yoga tales with the sun salutation for excellent morning postures and wind-down relaxing positions for before night are included in these two volumes.

Both books are favorites of mine for my children to complete on their own!

Yawning Yoga is a type of exercise in which you yawn.

This was a recent discovery for me, and it was a good one.

It contains a number of peaceful and relaxing positions that are particularly useful for settling down before bed.

Excellent position explanations that are simple to follow.

Yoga Friends: a Pose-by-Pose Partner Adventure for Kids, written by Mariam Gates, is a book for children.

I purchased it this year, and my children have enjoyed using it with a buddy to practice the partner postures.

When I have a partner book for my children to utilize together or as a team, it is really wonderful!

Marie Gates has written a book titled Yoga Bug: Simple Poses for Little Ones.

It’s also something my sister uses with her two-year-old.

I like the message of body acceptance as well as the suggestions for self-soothing.

Yoga Bear, Yoga Bunny, and Yoga Whale are all new additions to her collection!

Little Yoga: A Toddler’s First Book of Yoga is a book about yoga for toddlers.

This is another another charming book that is suitable for toddlers.

If you want to introduce yoga to the youngest members of your family, this is a terrific book to use.

You have the characteristics of a Lion.

My kindergarten students are introduced to a few fundamental postures using this video, which I show them every year at the beginning of the school year.

It’s charming since it allows the kids a chance to identify which animal they are, or to feel empowered by knowing the positions after you’ve read the book multiple times with them.

During my first year of teaching, I came across the Peaceful Piggy books and quickly purchased many copies.

), this is a great introduction to yoga.

Because it is a little lengthier, I occasionally skip a few pages, but I appreciate having it on hand for specific occasions.

The affirming “I am” declarations, as well as the beautiful colors, are particularly appealing.

For example, in the boat stance, I may say, “I can sail on the sea,” and “I can go with the flow.” These kind of metaphors are excellent for older children who are attempting to make real-world connections to how yoga may assist them in navigating life.

It really simply goes through the fundamentals of a sun salutation, however there are several other positions on the inner front and back pages.

In this incredibly charming book, a bear who is emerging from hibernation practices yoga with the help of a stuffed animal companion.

To assist his companions in resolving their troubles, Meddy Teddy employs postures on every page of the book.

The actual moldable teddy bear for my classroom was recently purchased and I think it will be very wonderful.

My children also enjoy the Meddy Teddy Board Book, which I purchased for them.

The durability of this gorgeous book is something I really appreciate.

It contains one posture each page and letter, and it has some innovative positions to go along with the lovely photos on each page and letter.

I was overjoyed when one of my co-workers discovered this book for me at a garage sale and brought it in to contribute to my classroom the following day.

Robyn Snow’s A Yoga Adventure Through Space is a book about her yoga journey throughout space.

As well as teaching children about the solar system and the planets, it is a delightful yoga experience that also teaches them information about the moon and the sun.

These are the first books I discovered that included yoga positions that were written directly into the book itself.

It’s fun for me to read them out loud as well, but I’ve found that in my classroom, students respond better if I model the postures as well, so I typically let them read the stories out loud or to each other.

In fact, Anna and the Rainbow Colored Yoga Mats, the first book I ever bought from her, provided a fantastic introduction to yoga for my students.
