An 8-Minute Meditation for Sustainable Energy with Janet Stone

School

This is a space for waking, healing, learning, and remembering our actual nature, and it is open to everybody. Immersive, profound sadhana (devotional practice) allows us to become more personal with our inner selves, unraveling habitual behaviors and patterns, discovering our innermost heart intention (sankalpa), and practicing aligning our day-to-day decisions with our goal. We hope you will find a home here through immersions, workshops, retreats, and trainings, both in person and online. This is my passion, and this is where I flourish when I am able to show up and share the wisdom of my professors in a way that is appropriate for the situation.

What we’ve seemingly forgotten along the road of life’s whirlwind of dividing and disorienting ideas, old habits and patterns has been brought to our attention here, to be remembered and to remind others what we’ve seemingly forgotten has been brought to our attention here.

Stone Yoga School is a worldwide sangha that has grown out of Janet’s many years of teaching and considerable travel.

During the meantime, we keep linked through a comprehensive virtual training program.

  1. Practice is the cornerstone of everything: life, teaching, and interpersonal relationships.
  2. Throughout the training program, students are encouraged to develop and maintain a personal home practice of their own.
  3. Take your practice to the next level by following these steps.
  4. As a result, learning extends well beyond the confines of any particular immersion.
  5. Learn how to teach others about the practice you enjoy.
  6. (See also: Whether or whether students go on to become teachers, the techniques they learn are shared amongst themselves and, as a result, spread across the community.

HOPE

When I’m in the depths of despair, how do I discover hope? It’s completely insane out there! Read anything, see anything, talk to anybody, become involved in social or environmental justice work, politics, the economics, or health, take a stroll through the city, through the burned forest, or along the plastic-covered beaches. Asana

It is necessary to keep a sacred temple in good condition. If it isn’t, then it isn’t sacred anymore, because it is precisely the actions of attention and care that make a space sacred in the first place. If left ignored, the inevitable rot and degradation will take hold and take over. Chaos returns to order, which is the great law of life. And, as with temples, so it is with our physical bodies. What’s in an intention

Simply said, intention is the collection of energy and the shifting of attention. It is grounded on the current instant, yet it has one eye fixed on the far horizon of the future.

The River of Practice

Each drop of water contributes to the character of the river. My life is often compared to a river in my mind. Each practice on and off my mat—each asana, each sitting meditation, each recitation of a mantra, and each mindful interaction with another—is a drop in that river, and each drop counts. It is via this metaphor that I am able to reconnect with the broader goal if it seems absolutely ridiculous or incredibly uninteresting to get up early or take a break in the middle of a very busy day to “do” the practice.

After all, it’s a less potent body of water in the long run.

Meditation: Space for Stillness

Don’t just sit there and wait for anything to happen. Through daily practice, I’ve learned to let go of any extravagant hopes that my entire life will be “solved” and that I will become permanently enlightened—immersed in divine pleasure and free of the gale-like winds of my mind—throughout the course of my lifetime. The liberation I’ve discovered is in this realization that the “solution” isn’t a solution in the traditional sense. It’s a drop in the bucket of tending to my vacillating thoughts on a day-to-day basis—and, as a result, of tending to my entire self.

While the process of learning to “speak up” is a lifetime endeavor, the moment to speak up at the polls has come. What exactly does it mean to have a voice? The ability to talk with compassion, clarity, and strength while remaining in accordance with one’s beliefs. And, more specifically, what is the link between yoga practice and voting? The fundamental concept, which is that we are all interrelated and interdependent, that we come from One and return to One, is what creates the connection. Continue reading this post »

Prana Vayus

While the process of learning to “speak up” is a lifelong endeavor, the time to speak up at the polls has arrived. Who gets to decide what it means to have a say? The ability to talk with love, clarity, and strength while remaining in accordance with one’s values. In addition, what is the connection between yoga practice and voting? Because the fundamental principle is that we are all interrelated and interdependent, that we come from One and return to One, we have a relationship with one another.

UNDOING

As I near the milestone of fifty years in this body (yes, fifty years), I’m thinking about how to throw a big bash. Although I find myself struggling against the temptation, evidently I am still a human, and so here I am, attempting to attach meaning to the objects around me.

What are you ALIGNING with?

We hear a lot of dos and don’ts, some musts, and a few nevers as we go along the road to success. Depending on the tradition you’re learning or teaching in, these “rules” may be diametrically opposed to what’s being taught just down the hall in the classroom next door. Continue reading this post »

Drama Chaser

This past week, an ordinary “philosophy” instructor in the yoga community wrote something that was highly disrespectful to women and, more broadly, to everyone who is interested in the truth and historical facts. Millions of comments were left on it, which was then distributed endlessly through numerous groups before being posted, reposted, and re-posted again—often by people who were the most (understandably) offended by it. Consume. Consumer. Consuming. Consumed.

Being born into a period where gaining stuff has become our god is a difficult task. More, more, more is the norm when it comes to stuffing our bags, houses, automobiles, children, and minds. If we chose less and accept less, we are considered outsiders. And we’re left to figure out how to explain to our children that, despite the fact that our country breeds more consumption than any other place on the planet, teaching developing countries that the bigger and fuller the “cart,” the happier one is, our family has chosen to buy less than the average person.

Making Friends with Fear

The ability of dread to dominate our physiology is intriguing, if not occasionally irritating to observe. The mind’s control over our mental and physiological processes may induce an internal scream even when we are able to connect with the reality that everything is OK. Simply visualizing a sad, scary, unpleasant, or dangerous circumstance can trigger an internal scream to be released. Continue reading this post »

Sadhana: Daily Practice

It is sadhana that is the foundation of living yoga, and it is from this well that we draw as students and instructors on the road.
