April 2021 Astrological Forecast: Sprout Up, Root Down

April 2021 Forecast: Sprouting Up and Rooting Down

April ushers in a fresh influx of vitality, which is accentuated by the first two signs of the zodiac, Aries and Taurus. Aries energy is pure invention; it has the ability to create something out of nothing. Consider it the same as if you were a toddler beginning to walk: now is an excellent time to try anything new, such as a new yoga or meditation technique. Maintain an open mind, as well as a feeling of wonder and curiosity that comes from being a kid, and pay attention to what arises for you.

This month, Aries asks you to reconnect with your fundamental sense of self by getting in touch with your inner child.

Do you have a strong desire to go in a specific direction?

Activating from within, the new moon in Aries on April 11 stokes a fire that burns away bad residue left over from the previous cycle.

Venus and Mercury will also move into Taurus in late April, which will cause everything to slow down: Concentrate on and define your most basic requirements right now so that you may build a firm foundation on which to build your goals and dreams in the future.

Key Planetary Dates

4th of April: Mercury enters Aries on the first Sunday of the month, infusing your mental state with a fresh feeling of sharpness and directness that you haven’t experienced in a long time. This change helps to clarify ideas that may have been lacking in clarity and direction in previous weeks. The new moon in Aries on April 11th is highly active, breaking forth and shattering bonds with earlier experiences of feeling confined or caged-like. While practicing kapalbhati (or skull-shining) pranayama, you may spark your metabolic fire as you prepare to welcome the arrival of springtime.

  • Venus in Taurus instills a profound sense of awe for our relationship with the planet Earth as well as with our own bodies.
  • If feasible, go for a stroll in meditation or sit quietly on the ground and gently direct your gaze toward any flora that comes into your line of sight.
  • In the sign of Aries, this serves as a gentle reminder to center our entire mental state on our hearts and not our heads.
  • Upon entering Taurus on April 19, the Sun begins to moderate the initial rush of Aries energy, allowing it to settle into a more steady and stable rhythm.
  • Trynadi shodhana, also known as alternate-nostril breathing, can be used to maintain this equilibrium in the present moment.
  • Discovering what true aspects of yourself desire to be held, sat with, and embodied is the goal of this invitation.
  • For example, you can consider taking a few moments to pause on your yoga mat, one hand on your navel and one on your heart to make room for embodied insights.

It is encouraged to simply be with whatever emotions come as a result of this transit.

Simply feeling is something we might all benefit from doing more often in order to allow healing to occur.

We are invited to go to the depths of our emotions on April 26th, when the full moon in Scorpio rises.

What events from our past continue to leave us feeling emotionally abandoned and trapped today?

Twists that are supported during this moon phase might be quite nutritious.

To do so, however, you must first identify the instances in which you have already abandoned your own self. Renewing a dailysvadhyaya, or self-reflection practice, is constantly enlightening and enlightening in its results.

Please take the time to read the following: Keep in mind thatGardening by Moon PhaseandGardening by Moon Zodiac Signare two separate/independent biodynamic systems, and they may provide you with different or contradictory gardening ideas depending on the time of year.

  • A) Each Moon Phase (with the exception of the Full Moon and New Moon) lasts around 1 week
  • B) Each Moon Zodiac Sign lasts approximately 2.5 days

To find out which recommendations are the most appropriate for you, try experimenting with these two systems. 2) Tropical (Astrological) x Sidereal (Astronomical) Zodiac: Tropical (Astrological) x Sidereal (Astronomical) Zodiac: Days for Leaf, Fruit, Root, and Flower are 1-2 days apart (depending on the season). When establishing the Moon Sign, there are two separate zodiacs to consider:

  • It is based on the seasons, and the Vernal Equinox is fixed at zero degrees Aries (the first fruit day). It is based on the seasons, and the Sidereal zodiac (Astronomical) takes into account the Precession of Equinoxes, which changes zero degrees Aries back by around 1-2 days. This Sidereal zodiac was used by Maria Thun, a biodynamic expert who was well-known for her work.

Experiment with these two zodiac systems as well to see which one best matches your personality and temperament.

Planting by the Moon and by the Signs

Whether or not you believe that your destiny is governed by the stars, you probably know which astrological sign you were born under, right? Astrology is just an amusement to most of us these days, but to our ancestors, natural astrology was important in predicting seasonal events and weather. Well-informed planters used the position of the sun, moon and the constellations to manage their livestock and crops.

Ptolemy, an ancient Greek astronomer who lived in the second century, was the first to systematize and tie celestial phenomena to weather, tides, and the seasons. It was during the Middle Ages that the planters’ almanacs that we are acquainted with today began to incorporate star charts. Around the sixteenth century, almanacs employed natural astrology to make forecasts about the weather and agricultural production. By the middle of the 18th century, almanacs were extremely profitable, coming in second only to the Bible in terms of the number of copies sold each year on the market.

  1. The Science and Technology of Lunar Planting Everything has its scientific basis, and old-time farmers swear by the process, saying that it results in a greater and more flavorful harvest than ever before.
  2. In addition, the tides are at their maximum between the new and full moon phases (when the moon is waxing), thus, similar to how the moon influences sea-level rise and fall, it also influences ground-level water level rise and fall.
  3. To obtain a printable version of a convenient lunar planting guide, go HERE.
  4. When the moon travels around the earth on a monthly basis, it passes through each of the twelve signs of the Zodiac.
  5. Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are all Water signs, whereas Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are all Earth signs.
  6. Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are Air signs, whereas Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are Fire signs.
  7. Air and Fire signs are regarded barren, indicating that it is time to forego planting and instead concentrate on weeding and trimming.

Fruit trees should be pruned during a fire sign, and weeds should be pulled during the sign of Leo to prevent seeds from sprouting.

According to the lunar calendar, root crops such as carrots, turnips, and potatoes provide the highest yields when planted during the lunar month of Capricorn.

Quite simply, if you want to garden by the signs, you plant when the moon is both waxing and in a fruitful (water or earth) sign; and you do weeding, tilling, and harvesting when the moon is both waning and in a barren (air or fire) sign, respectively.

A Few Additional Observations from the Almanac The following are some more useful recommendations culled from many almanacs that you’ve undoubtedly heard before: When the oak leaves are the size of a mouse’s ear, it is time to plant maize and beans.

Early corn, peppers, and tomatoes should be planted when the dogwoods are at their full bloom or when the daylilies begin to blossom, according to the USDA.

Potatoes are being planted on Good Friday.

Traditionally, Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday following the first full moon following the spring equinox.

Because Easter is celebrated in March rather than April up here in Valle Crucis, we end up planting our potatoes on “Good Friday” in April, which corresponds to the official one the day before Easter.

This is quite fascinating; I’m looking forward to putting some of the suggestions into practice this gardening season.

For the time being, I’ll leave you to think that while I study my almanac for the optimum day to chop down those annoying saw-briars up at my new ground while holding a “fire” sign over my head.

LOCATION

Gardening by the Light of the Moonis a wonderful method of organizing your garden. Many of our readers adhere to the centuries-old practice of planting according to the Moon’s phase in order to have a healthier and more fruitful garden. ADVERTISEMENT Gardening under the light of the moon is becoming increasingly popular, although the method is not new. Moon phase gardening has been used by gardeners and farmers for a very long time! The best part is that it is a rather straightforward procedure.

What Is Gardening by the Moon?

It appears that many of these trend monitors are perplexed by the concept of Gardening or Planting by the Moon, based on what we’ve read so far. In terms of gardening, there is a distinction between conventional Moon Planting and gardening according to astrological “Best Days.”

Gardening by the Moon

Essentially, the concept behind Gardening by the Moon is that the Moon’s cycles have an effect on plant development. The Moon’s gravitational pull causes the tides to rise and fall, and it also has an effect on the amount of moisture in the soil. So it is believed that seeds would absorb more water during the full Moon and new Moon, when more moisture is drawn to the soil surface, than at any other time of the year. The swelling of the seeds results in more successful germination and establishment of the plants in the soil.

Planting some sorts of plants during the waning of the Moon and other types during the waxing of the Moon is regarded to be the most beneficial.

In response to gravitational pressure, roots grow downward, while stems grow in the opposite direction of the root growth (i.e., upwards).

One should be positioned on its side so that the stem will grow upward.

Astrological “Best Days”

Astrological Best Days are based on the Moon, much as Gardening by the Moon is based on the Moon. Best Days, on the other hand, are determined based on the Moon’s position in the astrological zodiac, rather than its phase at the time of the prediction.

The Moon is in Taurus, for example, it is regarded to be a favorable period to plant, transplant, or graft. Certain indicators, such as the ones displayed above, are related with common gardening activities:

Activity Associated Signs
Plant, Transplant, or Graft Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces, or Taurus
Harvest Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, or Aquarius
Build/Fix Fences or Garden Beds Capricorn
Control Insect Pests, Plow, or Weed Aries, Leo, Sagittarius, Gemini, or Aquarius
Prune Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius

Check out our Best Days Timetable to learn when the future Best Days will be held.

How to Plant by the Moon’s Phases

If you want to plant near the Moon, follow these instructions:

  • When the Moon is waxing (from the day the Moon is new to the day the Moon is full), plant your annual flowers, fruit, and vegetables that yield crops above ground (such as maize, tomatoes, melons, and zucchini). Plants are encouraged to produce leaves and stems as the moonlight increases in intensity from night to night. When the Moon is waning (from the day after it is full to the day before it is new again), plant floral bulbs, biennial and perennial flowers, and vegetables that bear harvests below ground (such as onions, carrots, and potatoes). With each passing night, the amount of moonlight diminishes, which encourages plants to produce more roots, tubers, and bulbs.

Dates for Planting by the Moon

See the AlmanacPlanting Calendar for information on when to plant depending on 1) typical last frost dates and 2) Moon phase, among other factors. Both are tailored to your specific postal code (in the United States and Canada)! Each vegetable and food listed in the Almanac has good times for sowing seeds or transplanting into the ground, according to the Almanac. You may also determine planting dates on your own by using our Moon Phase Calendar and the recommendations provided above, albeit this technique will not take your climate into consideration, as described above.

How to Remove Roots Out of the Ground

It is the roots of trees, shrubs, and other landscape and garden plants that supply nutrients to the stems, branches, leaves, flowers, and seeds or fruits of the plant. In some cases, root removal may be required before you can replant after a tree has been chopped down or after a garden bed has been cleaned up. As a result of the roots left in the ground, trees, shrubs, and deep-rooted weeds can resprout or send up suckers, making it necessary to remove the bigger roots in order to reduce resprouting without resorting to chemical treatments.

Garden Cleanup

Cleaning up your garden after you’ve gathered summer and fall-ripening veggies and fruits helps to keep illnesses from spreading. One method for removing a large number of little roots from the soil is to double dig the garden bed and rake away roots, twigs, pebbles, and other detritus from the soil. Sandy Vanno, a Master Gardener, suggests covering the garden bed with cardboard and soaking it in water before planting. After that, build a 3-foot-tall lasagna-style compost pile with 2-inch-deep layers of dead leaves, shredded paper, straw, and wood ash, as well as grass clippings, kitchen wastes, manure, coffee grounds, and other green materials, and leave it to decompose over the winter in a no-dig compost pile.

The soil that has been stirred and treated throughout the process of creating a garden bed may include opportunistic weeds and grasses that will grow.

They are hardy in USDA plant hardiness zones 3 through 10, and they are extremely deep-rooted and stubborn.

Tree Root Removal

When a tree is planted, its roots stretch out in a broad circle around it, frequently extending as far as twice the height of the canopy. According to the University of Florida IFAS Extension, a weeping willow (Salix babylonica), which grows up to 50 feet tall in USDA zones 2 through 9, can have roots that extend vigorously up to 150 feet or more out from the trunk. An experienced tree service would chop the trunk of the tree down to a depth of 8 to 12 inches using a stump grinder prior to removing it from the landscape.

According to the Iowa State University Extension, the majority of tree roots grow in the first 18 inches of soil, with more than half of them growing in the top 6 inches of soil.

If you are constructing plumbing, a foundation, or another hardscape, deeper roots will naturally rot underground and will not need to be removed.

Mechanical and Chemical Controls

Many trees and plants generate root sprouts after being injured or cut down, and this is a common occurrence. In order to survive, several little sprouts may appear throughout the lawn or landscape as a result of this survival strategy. If you want to avoid using chemical controls, you must be extremely vigilant. Whether it’s dandelions or tree root sprouts, get rid of them as soon as they develop by pulling or cutting them off. To inhibit regeneration of root sprouts of trees or shoots of running bamboos (subfamily Bambusoideae), which are hardy in USDA zones 5 and higher, mow over the area.

Some tree species are tenacious and may necessitate the use of extra measures to keep them from regrowing.

Paint the outside border of the cut area with 2,4-D or a glyphosate product to allow the tree to take the herbicide down into the roots.

Prof. John Ball of South Dakota State University recommends drilling 1-inch-wide holes into the stump and feeding it with slow-release fertilizer if the stump is too old. Cover the tree with dirt or mulch and allow the trunk and its connected roots to rot in their natural environment.
