Stage 1: Self-Awareness

You come to the realization that there must be more to life than what you’ve been experiencing. You are aware that you have a mission, but you are unsure of what it is. You’re well aware that you need to make a significant adjustment. You are being urged to take action and alter your life, whether you are in agony or feeling numb. This is the place where the seed of dharma is sown.

Stage 2: Self-Improvement

You set out on a journey to become a better version of yourself. You may start by doing yoga asanas, following inspirational individuals on Instagram, reading self-help books, listening to motivational speakers, or utilizing a meditation app to help you relax and unwind. You’ve made the decision to change habits that are no longer beneficial to you. This stage is more concerned with the physical and cerebral levels of development than with the spiritual level. This is the place where the dharma seed is nurtured.

Stage 3: Awakening

This year, you make it a goal to better yourself in all aspects of life. Yoga asana, following inspiring individuals on Instagram, reading self-help books, listening to motivational speakers, or utilizing a meditation app are all good places to start. Changing habits that are no longer beneficial to you has already begun. Stage 4: Higher Consciousness

You have come out of the spiritual closet and no longer feel the need to conceal your religious ideas in order to be taken seriously by other people. You have identified the practices that speak to you and are beginning to share them with others, whether through social media or with family, friends, and coworkers. You are aware that you have dharma, but you are unsure of what it is and are still in the beginning stages of discovering it.

You have emerged as a completely different person, and others are beginning to inquire as to how you achieved this transformation. This is the point at which the dharma sprout begins to sprout.

Step 5: Step Into Your Dharma

By embracing who you are, you come to understand the underlying meaning of your existence. You recall your precious duty on this earth, and you are filled with gratitude. Suddenly, your viewpoint shifts from one of “me” to one of “us.” Your spiritual practice evolves into something far bigger than yourself; it becomes the basis from which you cure mankind and help it heal itself. You are being fueled by the universe and connected to a universal life force that is coursing through you at all times.

You come to comprehend that you have come to help others, and that by following your highest delight, you are serving the entire planet.

This is the place where the seed of dharma takes root and flourishes.

The 5 Stages of Discovering Your Dharma

Many of us are asking more profound questions than we have ever asked before in the wake of a year like 2020. What exactly is our goal? What are we doing here? And how can we live a life that is in harmony with our abilities? This is where the concept of dharma comes into play. There are over 16 distinct interpretations for the Sanskrit term “dharma,” but the one I’ll be using is “your soul’s mission,” which is exactly what I’ll be talking about. Your dharma is your huge why; it is the reason you are here, with all of your ideas, wants, and ambitions, to fulfill them.

The human experience is all about recalling our own past.

For myHighest Self podcast, I’ve interviewed hundreds of individuals who are on their path to understanding their dharma, and I’ve discovered a common thread in their stories.

Stage 1: Self-awareness

At this point, you recognize that there has to be more to life than what you’ve been experiencing up to this point. You are aware that you are here for a reason, but you have no clue what that reason is. To be really honest, you don’t even know where to begin. It feels like you’ve been thrown into this existence without a choice and that you just cannot continue to live this way. You’re well aware that you need to make a significant adjustment. You are being urged to take action and alter your life, whether you are in agony or feeling numb.

It is possible for some people to experience anxiety, despair, or panic at this stage of the process.

Stage 2: Self-improvement

After self-awareness comes self-improvement, which is the stage in which you decide to make it your purpose to become a better version of yourself. Practice yoga, follow inspiring individuals on social media, read self-help books, listen to motivational speakers, or use an app to track your progress are all options. You begin to change behaviors that are no longer beneficial to you as a result of your devoted daily routines. This stage is more concerned with the physical and mental levels of consciousness than with the spiritual level; in other words, you could meditate for the sake of reducing tension rather than for the purpose of understanding your soul.

While at this stage, you may get obsessed with fitness, nutrition, personal development, motivational speakers, brain hacks, biohacking, or yoga for the physical and mental advantages that it has to provide.

Stage 3: Awakening

Next to self-awareness is self-improvement, which is the stage in which you set out on a personal quest to become a better version of yourself. Practice yoga, follow inspiring individuals on social media, read self-help books, listen to motivational speakers, or use an app to track your progress are all good options to start with. You begin to change behaviors that are no longer beneficial to you as a result of your daily commitments. This stage is more concerned with the physical and mental levels of consciousness than with the spiritual level—in other words, you could meditate for the sake of reducing anxiety rather than for the purpose of discovering your soul.

While at this stage, you may get obsessed with fitness, nutrition, personal development, motivational speakers, brain hacks, biohacking, or yoga for the physical and mental advantages that it has to offer.

Stage 4: Higher consciousness

It is as if you are stepping out of the spiritual closet after you have reached your higher consciousness level. You will no longer feel the need to conceal your religious ideas in order to be taken seriously by others. Your favorite practices will have been identified, and you will begin to share them with others, either through social media or with family, friends, and coworkers who are interested. By this point, you’ll have a rough understanding that you have a dharma, but you may not be entirely certain what it is.

Taking classes, signing up for seminars, or enrolling in a teacher training program are all examples of ways to get started.

Following on from the techniques you’ve learned in the past such as shadow work, ancestral healing, plant medicine and/or past life regression, you’ll come to realize that you’re no longer operating from victim consciousness (the belief that life is happeningto you) and have instead come to realize that life is happeningforyou.

Stage 5: Stepping into your dharma

You’ll discover your deeper purpose for being here as a result of embracing who you’re meant to be. Take a glance around, and you’ll discover that you’re completely in sync with who you are and how you’re intended to present yourself to the world. Your mindset will shift away from metowe, and you’ll begin to think about how to cure mankind as a whole, rather than simply about oneself. This phase marks the beginning of your spiritual practice being about something far bigger than yourself; it marks the beginning of your journey toward helping to cure humankind.

  1. You come to understand that your dharma is to be of greater service to the ultimate good and that you are the conduit through which the divine’s wisdom is transmitted.
  2. You’ll be able to notice and modify any aspect of your life that is not in complete line with your objective, and you’ll be aware of how it was interfering with your progress.
  3. Eventually, you may feel comfortable sharing your healing powers, your teaching abilities, or your caring heart with others.
  4. What stage of your trip are you at?

The 5 Paths To Discovering Your Dharma

In the words of the Buddha, “It is better to live your own Dharma poorly than to live an imitation of someone else’s life flawlessly.” The Bhagavad Gita is a sacred text. What exactly is Dharma? Sanskrit term dharma, which roughly translates as “righteous life,” however the original word itself has a far deeper meaning than its literal translation. Described as an inner knowledge or a cosmic guidance, Dharma is described in the ancient Hindu writings of The Vedas as something that regulates not only the person, but the entire cosmos.

  1. Isn’t it simple?
  2. The reason why it may be difficult for you to hear that inner voice is because there are so many other voices competing for your attention at the same time.
  3. So, how do you find your Dharma in the midst of all of these competing voices?
  4. You will notice that as you deliberately take each step, the route itself will begin to drive you ahead in the proper direction.

  6. Consider what it is that makes you feel energized, alive, and aware.

Wherever you find happiness, that is where your true purpose is to be found.

In the event that you are presented with a decision between fear and joy, always choose pleasure over fear.

We are always directed through our next step; all we have to do is pay attention to the guiding lights.

Right?

Make a deliberate decision to let go of something unimportant in your life on a daily basis so that your life may become more open to receiving, recharging, and realigning with your purpose.

The Practice-Oriented Pathway In the event that you are not accustomed to meditation (which I strongly encourage), yoga may be a useful daily activity to include into your life.

Alternatively, you may develop a practice of anything else that interests you, such as walking a labyrinth, gratitude journaling, or playing the piano.

Fifth, the Path of Being.

However, the quality of your “nothing” is important; watching television does not qualify.

And checking your email or Facebook surely does not qualify as a priority.

Take a day trip to the beach, go on a hike, or go on a quiet retreat to unwind.

The possibilities that will arise as a result of this will allow you to become more aligned with nature’s cycles, the energy of the cosmos, and the center of your Being.

The Stages of Dharma Discovery

I’m extremely thrilled to share with you an extract from my new book Discover Your Dharma, which is all about the five phases of dharma discovery! I hope you like it! According to what I’ve learned from interviewing hundreds of people who are living their dharmas, there is a general progression through a series of five phases that one goes through in order to embody their dharma. In this episode, I explain what they are and how they may assist you understand where you are in your dharma journey right now.

Namaste. Welcome back to TheHighest Self Podcast with Sahara Rose, where we explore what it means to be at the pinnacle of your soul’s evolution, and how you may achieve there. Discover Your Dharma, a Vedic Guide to Finding Your Purpose is the title of the book I’ve been working on for the past almost two years, and it’s now ready for pre-order. I’m quite happy about its publication. Moreover, this book is my most personal and important book that I have ever written; it is completely different from any other book that I have written because it is straight from my soul and heart; it is my own downloads and revelations that I have had during my own Dharma Discovery Journey; it is my own downloads and revelations that I have had during my own Dharma Discovery Journey.

I began to question whether I even had a purpose; whether or not I would ever “make it”; whether or not my dream of becoming an author was just like being a starving artist (which was what my parents told me); and whether or not it was selfish of me to pursue my own visions because I believed that I needed to make sacrifices for my family because that was what I had seen and been taught.

So it’s not only about “Okay, I’m going to find a job,” it’s not about “Okay, I’m going to find a career,” it’s not about “Okay, I’m going to find a job,” it’s not about a career, because your Dharma is so much more than a profession; it is your complete expression, the reality of who you are.

What’s important is that this is not simply something you do for money or to pay the bills; this is you living full time and expressing yourself fully; it’s not that you pretend to be someone else during these hours and then return to being yourself.

And that isn’t something that comes naturally.

I am beyond thrilled and honored to begin sharing this book with you guys, and while it will be released on January 5th, I figured the best way to really give you guys a glimpse and a taste, and every ounce of the medicine that is this book, would be to have me read it to you guys on the podcast, so you can start implementing these practices; these tools; and these revelations into your own lives.

  1. So, by the time the book is published, you will be prepared for it, and you will be prepared to live your Dharma like a Mo-Fo.
  2. Perhaps you were too embarrassed to inquire.
  3. Exactly what I’m here to accomplish with you today is to facilitate that process.
  4. So, while I was writing “Discover Your Dharma,” I had written the most of it before realizing that it isn’t as simple as 1, 2, 3 – You’re not doing your Dharma/You are doing your Dharma; there are numerous processes and stages that occur between these two extremes.
  5. And when I looked back on my own path and saw how one event led to another, I divided them into 5 Stages of Dharma Discovery, and I believe that we are all somewhere along the spectrum of these 5 Stages.

And I’ll read to you this extract from the book, which is on page 10, so that you can have a sense of where you are in your own path of Discovering Your Dharma, to get a better sense of where you are now. So, let’s get started. “The Dharma Discovery Journey,” as the title suggests.

Stage 1 is Self-Awareness

You come to the realization that there must be more to life than what you’ve been experiencing. If you believe in a higher power, you may know what your purpose is, but you have no clue what it is or where to begin to discover it. It feels like you’ve been thrown into this existence without a choice and that you just cannot continue to live this way. You are aware that you require a major change, and despite your discomfort or numbness, you are compelled to take action and overhaul your life.

So, do you believe you are at Stage 1 of the process?

Stage 2 is Self-Improvement

You set yourself the goal of becoming a better version of yourself. Practicing Yoga Asana, following inspiring individuals on Instagram, reading self-help books, listening to motivational speakers, utilizing a meditation app, or anything else in the self-improvement field are all possibilities. You’ve made the decision to change habits that are no longer beneficial to you. And this stage is more concerned with the physical and mental levels of being than with the spiritual level of being. Because it still sees you just as a Mind and a Body that can be improved, things like Personal Development are very much still in the Self-Improvement Stage at this point.

It hasn’t quite reached the level of the spiritual soul yet, however.

Is this the person you’re looking for?

Stage 3 is The Awakening

Making self-improvement a priority becomes your purpose. Practicing Yoga Asanas, following inspiring individuals on Instagram, reading self-help books, listening to motivational speakers, utilizing a meditation App, or anything else in the self-improvement sector are all possibilities for you. Changing habits that are no longer beneficial to you has already begun. Moreover, this stage is more concerned with the physical and mental levels of being than with the spiritual level of being. So, for example, Personal Development as a whole is still very much in the Self-Improvement Stage since it still sees you as a Mind and a Body that can be made better.

At this point, it isn’t quite at the level of the spiritual soul yet.

Is this the person you’re looking for.

Stage 4 – Higher Consciousness

You have come out of the spiritual closet and no longer feel the need to conceal your religious ideas in order to be taken seriously by other people. You have identified the practices that speak to you and are beginning to share them with others, whether through social media or with friends, family, and coworkers. You are aware that you have a Dharma, but you are unsure of what it is and are still in the dabbling stages of discovering it. So maybe you’re experimenting with a number of various approaches; you’re clearly making progress, but you’re not exactly where you want to be yet.

  • You continue your spiritual development through practices such as Shadow Work, Ancestral Healing, Plant Medicine, and/or Past Life Regression, among other things.
  • You have learned that life is happening for you rather than to you, and you no longer function from a Victim Consciousness perspective.
  • “Can you tell me where you got this?” And it is at this point that the seed of Dharma begins to sprout.
  • Consequently, a large number of us may be at Stage 4 at the moment, and Stage 4 is an incredibly wonderful state to be in.

Are you fully living Is your entire life geared around that goal? Are you only surrounded by individuals who are willing to assist you on your trip; while the infrastructure may not be in place yet in Stage 4, it will be in place by Stage 5.

Stage 5 – Stepping Into Your Dharma

By embracing who you are, you come to understand the underlying meaning of your existence. You recall your precious duty on this earth, and you are filled with gratitude. Suddenly, your worldview shifts from a’me’ to a ‘we’ one. Your spiritual practice grows into something far larger than yourself; it becomes the foundation from which you cure the rest of the world. As a result of your connection to the Cosmos, you are able to tap into the Universal Life Force that flows through you. You modify any aspect of your life that is not in complete line with your objective because you see how it is preventing you from achieving it.

  1. You realize that you are only a conduit for the Cosmic Wisdom that is channeled via your body and mind.
  2. As a result, the Dharma has reached its full maturity at this point.
  3. I’m going to presume that the majority of individuals who are reading or listening to “Discover Your Dharma” or who are now listening to this Podcast are in Stages 4 or 3.
  4. This is speaking to my soul,” and you’ve just been elevated to Stage 3; or you might be in Stage 1 and have stumbled upon this Podcast.
  5. So, I’d want to point out that just because you were born with a Dharma does not imply that it will be followed at all times.

The alternative is to take that gift and shove it into a closet, never to be seen again (to be honest, most people choose the latter option because it feels easier to pretend that you don’t have a purpose than to confront it head on), or you can run with it, share with it, and watch it multiply and unfold.

As a result, if you begin to pay attention to your Dharma, you will discover that it is truly a gift that keeps on giving.

Perhaps you’re in Stage 2 and wondering, “How can I delve more deeply into my soul level?” Consider yourself at Stage 3: how can I further anchor and embody myself without feeling like a crazy person or experiencing shame or guilt about it; how can I establish friends who are also on a spiritual growth path so that I don’t feel so alienated and alone.

It might be anything from going full time with your ETSY Shop to quitting your job, moving, or terminating a relationship, to something completely different.

I believe that a large many of us believe that our Dharma must be self-sacrificial.

In fact, your Dharma is your greatest Joy because when you are in alignment with Joy, you are oozing love; you are oozing creativity; you are oozing energy and radiance, and all of these aspects you need to be oozing because your Dharma is going to present you with some obstacles and challenges, and if you’re not so pumped and radiant, and expressive, and magnetizing what it is that you want, you won’t be able to overc So, think about the 5 Stages, which I explain in detail in my book “Discover Your Dharma,” along with everything else, including the Dharma Archetypes, common questions people have, how your Doshas are related to your Dharma, how you can use your Chakras to channel your Dharma into this present moment, and much more.

In being who you are, you come to understand the greater meaning of your existence. The holy mission that you were given on this planet comes back to you. A shift occurs in your worldview, and you begin to see things as “us” instead of “me.” Your spiritual practice grows into something far larger than yourself; it becomes the basis from which you cure the rest of humankind. You are being powered by the Cosmos and connected to the Universal Life Force that is flowing through you at all times and in all places.

  • You recognize that you have here to help others, and you do it by pursuing your greatest Joy and so serving the entire world!
  • And here is the area in which you may genuinely embody your Dharma and the Truth of who you are, if you choose to do so.
  • In other words, where exactly are you on your path?
  • Assuming you’re already well into your spiritual journey, but you’re not sure what your Dharma is; or you’re just getting started; you might be in Stage 2 and have stumbled upon this Podcast, thinking “Wow!
  • Again, I want to highlight that these Stages are not in any way hierarchical, and that not everyone goes through them in the same way, but they do provide as a foundation for how many people’s Dharmic Journeys progress.
  • As a result, while your Dharma is your soul’s gift to this planet, you also have the ability to exercise your freedom.
  • Those are the kinds of things that I strongly advocate, and I believe you’re listening to this for those kinds of things as well.

I see that I have internalized the myth that “I will help people no matter how much it pains me because that is what a decent person does” – I recognize that I must sacrifice myself for the greater welfare of mankind.

You have a strong desire to make a significant change in your life, and Rose explains that it is “through suffering or numbness” that you are asked to take action and improve yourself.

You begin to suspect that you must be living for some type of greater reason, but you are also conscious that you have no idea what that higher purpose may be at this point in time. Despite your desire to make some type of major change, Rose explains that it is “through suffering or numbness” that you are urged to take action and improve your life.

Shutterstock Your attention is drawn away from self-improvement and toward self-knowledge at some point (this stage, specifically) on your path toward personal development. The process, as described by Rose, “leads you to the realization that you are not your body or your mind but rather a soul inhabiting a body with a mind.” When you have a strong desire to learn more about spiritual matters, it is possible that you will devote more time to yoga or meditation, or that you will study Ayurveda, energy healing, or even astrology more seriously.

Higher consciousness

According to Rose’s description, “You have come out of the spiritual closet and no longer feel the need to conceal your religious ideas in order to be taken seriously by other people. You have identified the activities that speak to you and have begun to share them with others.” That is the crux of the dilemma, because providing information without permission might come out as preaching.

This should be the time at which “the dharma sprout begins to grow,” as the saying goes.

Stepping into your dharma

Shutterstock As soon as you are able to connect with your spiritual side, you should be able to catch a glimpse (at long last!) of your life’s purpose, or your “holy mission,” as it is referred to in spiritual circles. As Rose puts it, “Your worldview shifts from one of me to one of us. Your spiritual practice evolves into something far broader than yourself; it becomes the basis from which you cure mankind and help it heal itself.” Once you recognize that your mission, whatever it may be, will always include being of service to others in some manner, you will understand what true joy is, and you will have reached “the place in which you fully embody your dharma and the reality of who you are,” as the saying goes.

What is dharma?

It is said that dharma is an ancient Sanskrit word that refers to the goal of one’s soul—the main cause for one’s existence, as explained by Sahara. “In addition to what you do, it is as important to consider how you do it and why you do it. Neither your vocation nor any particular endeavor, nor any particular role you play, constitutes your dharma. What it is is the distinct energy that your soul brings to all that you do and every aspect of your being.” For example, someone’s dharma may be to provide beauty to the world, and the manner they accomplish this might take numerous forms, like becoming an artist, an interior designer, or a hairstylist, among others.

How to discover your dharma

According to Sahara, the first step in discovering your dharma is recognizing that it is not something outside of yourself that you must discover, but rather something inside yourself that you must recall. The educational system has conditioned us as well as imposed societal expectations on us in the form of objectives and expectations.
